White marble and gilt bronze clock depicting Cupid sharpening his arrows.

Magnificent illustration of a rare subject in watchmaking skilfully executed by combining two noble materials.
Cupid standing, naked, wears a quiver and a drape that falls over its back through the shoulder. He is leaning over a water wheel operated by a foot pedal, and holds an arrow in his hands, the point of which he is sharpening.
Gilt bronze tools are placed at his feet.
A pair of doves, as well as the trunk of a tree suggest a naturalistic environment, and the white marble clock case is carved in imitation of a rock.
The whole rests on a polylobed base decorated with a frieze of pearls and balustrades, supported by a second white marble base of identical shape.
The perfect harmony between the nobility of white marble and the preciousness of gilt bronzes associated with an innovative and complex subject make our clock a real collector's item for a discerning connoisseur.

The white enamel dial is signed "Mandion à Paris"

Michel Mandion is a watchmaker established at 24, rue Coquenard in Paris, who died in 1815.
